In 2012, Dubbo hosted the 2012 Local Government Association Conference attracting 700 mayors, councillors and senior staff from councils across the state. The conference was held at Dubbo Regional Theatre & Convention Centre and included social events held at the Old Dubbo Gaol, Western Plains Cultural Centre and Taronga Western Plains Zoo.
In 2013, 18,000 people converged on the Dubbo Showground for the annual triple j event, One Night Stand. The event attracted record attendance and the City's motels, restaurants and cafe's overflowed with visitors. The event was an enormous success injecting an estimated $1.32M into the local economy.
Council's Events Unit submitted the bids that attracted both events to Dubbo, and it played a significant role in delivering both events.
