This year St John’s College Dubbo has invited the internationally acclaimed vocal quartet, The Idea of North to be special guests at their Annual Music Festival Concert. In the first act of the concert the Instrumental Music Ensembles of St John’s College and the Combined Primary Schools Ensembles will be featured. The Idea of North will perform with some of the College ensembles during act one which will be a great thrill for the young St John’s students. The second act of the evening will feature The Idea of North performing their own wonderful repertoire with their unique and thrilling style.

They have an ability to connect with their audience through not only their passion for music, but also their relaxed presentation and their endearing sense of humour. One such activity is the Public Lecture Series, which currently encompasses eighteen centres from Bathurst to Albury, and Deniliquin to Braidwood.

RSPCA Cupcake Day

The annual RSPCA Cupcake Day will be held Monday 16 August 2010 to help raise funds for RSPCA operations. This year the Dubbo RSPCA Shelter has been able to secure a sponsor in the Village Hot Bake who will be supplying the cupcakes for $2.50 each or a pack of 6 for $13. The RSPCA will be taking cupcake orders up until Monday 9 August.

If anyone would like to order some cupcakes for this worthwhile cause, or just because you or your kids like cupcakes, please let me know before Monday 9 August 2010 and I will place an order for you and they will be available on Monday 16 August.

Last year the RSPCA raised $1.1M through this fundraising and are aiming to raise $2.5M this year.

It costs RSPCA NSW $30M to operate, and 98% of the funding comes from the general community.

This is the Orana Equestrian Club's two day annual championship event and is held at one of the best venues in the region with a purpose build covered sand dressage arena, turfed grassed area and outdoor sand dressage arenas. This is a fabulous opportunity for riders to compete against some tough competition and also provides many of them a chance to ride their tests in preparation for the Australian Dressage Championships held later in the month at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre! The 2010 Frontier Services Classic Outback Trial

The 2010 Frontier Services Classic Outback Trial will be conducted in Western and Central New South Wales for Historic rally vehicles built up to 1996. The event will start and finish in Forbes, completing several loops around regional centres; Forbes, Coonabarabran and Dubbo. As with the 2009 Trial, the event will serve to create awareness of Frontier Services' Outback Links programme, which aims to reduce isolation and disadvantage in Outback Australia by linking appropriately skilled and gifted volunteers with people who could use a helping hand. A feature of the event will be a stop in Coonabarabran, where it will form part of the town's 150th anniversary celebrations.

The concept of the Frontier Services Classic Outback Trial is to run an outback style Trial through suitable areas of NSW. Dates of the event are October 10 to 16 - 2010. The organisers Philip Bernadou, Tom Snooks, Phil Rainer and Bob Watson (organisers of the 2008 Red Centre to Gold Coast Trial) have developed a similar, but more compact version of these past events. Service Crews will have less distance to travel to provide support to Competitors.

Entry fee for the Trial will be $3,750

The Lazy River Feast will be a celebration of Art, Food, Music and Environmental Activities on the banks of the Macquarie River on Saturday 25th September from 9am – 10.30pm.
The Lazy River Feast will be run in association with RiverSmart and throughout the day there will be plenty of activities for the kids incorporating the use of our river. Activities include canoe rides, dragon boating, Water Bug & Water Watch with Dubbo Field Naturalists, Zoomoovz and much more.
Showcasing some of Dubbo finest musicians the music festival will run from 1.30pm until 10pm with bands including Green River, Red Lounge and the Dubbo Big Band, just to name a few.
Everyone is encouraged to come along and relax on the river. A BBQ, Bar facilities, tea & coffee and gelato will be provided but everyone is more than welcome to bring a picnic and esky for the day.
Fresh Arts will be running an art exhibition in the cellar door which will be open to the general public from 4pm.

Just 1 piece of rubbish can make a difference. Come along and join in a family day and make a difference to the local environment. Spend the morning cleaning up then enjoy a BBQ and Kids activities from 12 noon. A scavenger hunt will be held and ZOO FM will be on site.

2010 marks the 20th anniversary of Clean Up Australia Day. If each and every Australian picks up just one piece of rubbish, over 20 million pieces of rubbish would be picked up.

Refreshments and BBQ lunch wil be provided from 12noon.
Face painting and jumping castle for the kids at 12noon.
Zoo FM will be on site for the day

Each year the Dubbo Chamber of Commerce and Industry presents the "Rhino Awards" to honour the city's most outstanding businesses. The Rhino, which is used as the logo of the Chamber, reflects both the fact that Dubbo is home to the Taronga Western Plains Zoo, and symbolises the strength of our local business community. The presentation night is one of the city's most prestigious annual events, a time when the city's business community honours its most outstanding performers in a number of categories.

This year's theme is 'Escape to the Sea'.

After the Dubbo Show, the City Of Dubbo Turf Club's Derby Day is the biggest party on the social calendar in the city and the Committee and management of the Club have taken steps this year in what is somewhat of a revamp of the day to ensure patrons have a day to remember.

Dubbo Turf Club, ‘The Racing Hub of the West’, is situated on the Golden Highway (Dunedoo Road) on the eastern side of town.

3rd National Diggers Bowls Carnival

The 3rd National Diggers Bowls Carnival is being held at the Dubbo Railway Bowling Club and the West Dubbo Bowling Club on 14, 15 and 16 September. This event is open to all current serving and ex-servicemen/women and attract bowlers from all over Australia, who compete for a total of $10 000 in prize money. Last year about 170 bowlers contested this event. Proof of service is required.

The NSW Appaloosa Championship show will be held at the Dubbo City showgrounds. This event attracts hundreds of people from around Australia and is an important event for all horse lovers.
