Let’s talk Dubbo 2036

Imagine Dubbo in 2036 - how old will you be? What do you want Dubbo to be like in the future? This free workshop is designed to get all of your thoughts and vision for Dubbo's future. Your thoughts will help create the 25 year plan for Dubbo.

Be part of this City's most comprehensive community-based planning process to date and help shape Dubbo's future. The creation of the Dubbo 2036 Community Strategic Plan needs your insight, your experience and your ideas to create a long-term vision for the Dubbo Local Government Area. It will be this Area's highest level plan and it will affect future decision-making over the next 25 years.

How you can get involved

Young? Passionate? Want to make a difference in your local area? Need some cash to make it happen?

Young? Passionate? Want to make a difference in your local area? Need some cash to make it happen? Then the Youth Participation Grants Program may be the answer.

The aim of the Program is to give young people the power and resources to develop and implement community based projects in their local area.

Grants will be awarded to young people that can demonstrate that:
·      Their project benefits the community in some way
·      The idea for the project has come from young people
·      The application has been created by young people
·      Their project will increase community interaction

Sydney Travelling Film Festival is coming to Dubbo

Are you a film enthusiast or want to get into the film industry? Australia’s longest running travelling film festival will be coming to Dubbo. The Sydney Travelling Film Festival (TFF) is a showcase of Australian and international features, documentaries and short films screening in areas which have limited theatrical screening opportunities. The TFF is committed to providing audiences in regional Australia with access to films they would otherwise not have the opportunity to see on the big screen, the TFF presents cinema in a festival environment and promotes a film experience that encourages debate, community involvement and interaction. In addition to screenings, you will have the opportunity to meet film industry professionals through the film industry guest and workshop program.

Opening night is Friday 25 March 7pm, with the screening of 'Winter's Bone' (nominated for four Academy Awards). Complimentary drinks will follow. Save over 40% off regular ticket prices with a subscription to all nine films ($7.80 per film or $6.70 concession).

Cyber-safe information session tonight

Want to know what protect your children online? Tonight, a presentation will be held to help assist parents, teachers and the general community to increase their knowledge on cyber-safety issues and equip attendees with useful tips on how to help children and young people stay safe online.

6pm - 7.30pm, Dubbo City Council Meeting Rooms

Presented by NSW Police Senior Constable Martin Paice, the session will provide information on:
- What children and young people are doing online
- Placing personal information on the internet
- Indicators that a child may be at risk on the internet or from cyber-bullying
- Methods and techniques used by internet predators
- Protective and preventative measures

Be creative and stretch your imagination.

Create an artwork based on the theme "Where I am" using their own choice of medium.
  • Entrants must be between 12 and 24 years of age
  • Any media can be used, eg. drawing, photography, textiles, sculpture
  • All works accepted will be eligible for the main prize of $200
  • Artwork due to the WPCC by 29 March 2011
Youth Week Art Prize winners will be announced during the Official Opening of Youth Week to be held at the WPCC, 6pm on Friday, 1 April 2011. Download the poster and application form here for more information and start getting creative!

Looking for something to do over the Christmas holiday period?
The Dubbo Youth Foundation have a range of fun and interesting acitivites. Read the full program here.
Dubbo PCYC are also running activities during the holidays, from 4 January to 28 January. Acitivies include soccer, basketball, volleyball, oztag, arts and crafts and movies. You must be a member ($5.50 per child) and there are costs involved. Read the full program here.

Mosh & Spolsh this Sunday

What are you doing this Sunday?

Come along to the Dubbo Pool for Mosh and Spolsh as part of this year's 'I Love Dubbo' festival. The awesome day starts 11am to 4pm on Sunday14 November, and will feature a guest DJ, live music, a giant inflatable and waterslide, with free entry for all 12 to 24 year olds. In exchange for free entry at the pool, the youth council has put together a short survey of about 10 questions about lifestyle, your interests and opinions and what you would like to see in Dubbo.
You can fill out the online form now by clicking here or the Youth Council members will be set up at the pool entrance with laptops for you to complete the survey before entering. So not only will you be able to have fun at the pool but help to work towards creating other activities and future events in Dubbo.

Think you've got talent? "Australia's Got Talent" is back on the road searching for anyone of any age with any special skill or talent. They're looking for solo acts, group performances, singers, dancers, illusionists, circus & stunt acts, instrumentalists, comedians, novelty acts, animal acts, child performers, and whether amateur or professional, the doors are open to everyone!
