Changes to Youth Allowance
Australian Youth Music Council is online now

The Australian Youth Music Council was created in 2009 as the youth sub-committee of the Music Council of Australia. Last week we launched ourselves online with the AYMC website and our Facebook and Twitter profiles so please join us if you’re interested in music for young people. Our group has 9 young people from across Australia who are involved in a variety of genres (contemporary music, jazz, early music, classical, hip hop etc) and with different experiences in music industry.
If you’re interested, take a look at the new website and keep in touch.
Young Carers Online competition
Carers Australia are proud to announce the Young Carers Online Competition. Entry is open to all young people under the age of 26, who are a young carer or who have been a young carer. If you had 5 minutes with a politician, what would you tell them about the needs of young carers? Each idea goes into the draw to win one of 6 $250 JB Hi-Fi vouchers and every entrant receives a Young Carer kit. Competition is open from now until Sunday 9 May. Carers Australia will present the results to Government, giving young carers the chance to speak up and be heard. Young carers are eligible to enter as many times as they like. The competition closes on Sunday May 9 2010 at midnight (EST).
The competition is a partnership between Carers Australia and the Inspire Foundation (who host the Reach Out website). Winners of the JB Hi-Fi vouchers will be determined by a judging panel that includes one young carer. All entries will be complied into a report to be presented to government. There are links to the competition on the National Youth Week website, the Australian Youth Forum website and the Carers Australia website.
To enter go to www.reachout.com/carers. For more information contact Nicole Box, Young Carers program Coordinator at carers Australia on (02) 6122 9916 or nbox@carersaustralia.com.auRedkite's Dare to Dream Scholarship
Are you or do you know a young person aged 16-24 who has had cancer at some point in their life? Applications for Redkite’s Dare to Dream Scholarship Program 2010 are now open to help these young people pursue their dreams – and to make a real difference to their lives.
Last year's national winner, Christine, was in crippling pain from cancer on her spine, but with sheer determination, she is now studying a Bachelor of Applied Communication Design at university and is using her scholarship funds to support her during her studies.
Redkite supports children and young people with cancer, and is offering a National Scholarship prize of $5000, with 6 x $2000 State and Regional Scholarships, 12 x $1000 High Commendation Awards, and 12 x $500 Encouragement Awards available.
Applications are open until Monday, 5th July, 2010. To apply or for more information, visit their website or become a facebook fan.
Have a great idea to make a difference?

The Hon Kate Ellis MP, Minister for Early Childhood Education, Child Care and Youth opened the initiative on 13 April 2010 and announced that winning entries will be provided with funding of up to $15,000, to turn their idea into reality.
The winning ideas will be documented on the AYF website. Apply now! Entries close 5.00pm AEST Tuesday 11 May 2010
